Stephen Ranjan is a global healthcare leader with more than 20 years of experience driving innovation across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and digital health sectors. He focuses on translating the potential of AI and digital technologies into practical scientific and clinical outcomes across the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, offering strategic guidance to solve complex scientific and operational challenges.
He is the Founder & CEO of Sentient Health, where he helps pharmaceutical organizations overcome the complexities of adopting digital solutions, enhance the efficiency and accuracy of clinical trials, and address critical research and operational bottlenecks through AI-enabled approaches. His work spans optimizing AI-driven patient recruitment strategies, integrating digital biomarkers into clinical programs, and applying digital twin technologies to model biological processes and reduce risks in drug development. He also collaborates with AI-driven drug discovery and clinical technology startups to support their market entry strategies and growth.
Prior to founding Sentient Health, Ranjan served in Basel, Switzerland as Global Head of Digital Health at Roche, one of the world"s leading global pharmaceutical companies, where he led digital health strategy across Oncology, Neuroscience, and Ophthalmology. Before that, he worked at Merck & Co., a major U.S.-based global pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company, as Executive Director for Global Marketing - Customer Solutions & Innovation. At Merck, he led a global innovation team that co-created novel healthcare solutions with key partners across providers, payers, and retail sectors, and built strategic partnerships with Verily, a life sciences company under Alphabet (Google), and Amazon Web Services (AWS), positioning Merck as a technology-forward industry leader. Notably, he co-launched the Alexa Diabetes Challenge with AWS, helping Merck become the first pharmaceutical company to join the AWS Global Partner Network.
Ranjan also serves as a Board of Trustees member at West Virginia Wesleyan College, contributing to leadership and educational programs that prepare future innovators in healthcare, technology, and the sciences.
