Noreena Hertz is a globally renowned economist, bestselling author, board member, senior adviser, and keynote speaker. She has been named by The Observer as “one of the world’s leading thinkers” and by Vogue as “one of the world’s most inspiring women.”
A global economist whose work sits at the intersection of economics, technology, politics, and society, Noreena is widely recognized as a pioneering thinker on artificial intelligence, post-millennial generations, decision-making, and community and connection in an increasingly fragmented world. She advises some of the world’s largest organizations and most senior leaders on strategy, transformation, and leadership decision-making, helping them navigate rapid economic, technological, and geopolitical change.
Noreena serves on the boards of Nasdaq-listed companies Mattel and Warner Music Group, as well as the board of HR technology company Workhuman. She has also served on Citigroup’s Politics and Economics Global Advisory Board, the Inclusive Capitalism Taskforce’s Advisory Group, and RWE’s Digital Transformation Board. Her thinking helped inspire Bono’s global campaign, Product (RED).
She is the author of several international bestsellers, including The Silent Takeover, The Debt Threat, and Eyes Wide Open, all published in more than twenty countries. Her most recent book, The Lonely Century: A Call to Reconnect, is an international bestseller examining the economic, social, and political costs of loneliness and disconnection in the 21st century. The book was selected as a Book of the Year by publications including The Daily Telegraph, Wired, and El Mundo.
As a sought-after keynote speaker, Noreena has delivered keynote addresses at TED, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and Google Zeitgeist, as well as for leading global corporations and institutions. She has shared stages with figures such as President Bill Clinton, Professor Stephen Hawking, and Dr. Jane Goodall.
Her speaking focuses on several core themes. She analyzes artificial intelligence not merely as a technological trend but as a structural force reshaping economies, societies, democracy, work, and what it means to be human. She helps leaders understand how to adapt and build resilience in a radically transformed global landscape marked by geopolitical instability, protectionism, and supply-chain reconfiguration. Drawing on her proprietary research, she also explores the values, anxieties, and behaviors of post-millennial generations-often referred to as “Generation K” and how organizations can engage, inspire, and retain them as employees and consumers. In addition, she shares insights from her own journey of breaking barriers, offering practical perspectives on leadership, influence, and impact.
Noreena’s writing and commentary have appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Die Zeit, El Pais, and The South China Morning Post. She is a frequent television commentator and has appeared on programs such as CBS’s This Morning, BBC’s Question Time, and NHK’s Global Debate. She has created and hosted four television documentaries, hosted her own show on Sirius XM, and previously served as Economics Editor for ITV, the UK’s leading commercial television network.
Noreena holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After spending ten years at the University of Cambridge, she moved in 2014 to University College London, where she is an Honorary Professor.
